Our Mission
Brooklyn Animal Shelter, Inc. has been
organized for the purpose of raising funds to promote the following
objectives:
1. To encourage responsible pet ownership by educating the public on
the importance of spaying or neutering to control animal
over-population.
2. To increase public awareness of the proper care of companion
animals.
3. To assist in providing a safe, clean, comfortable environment for
lost, abandoned and stray animals.
4. To reunite owners and lost pets.
5. To promote adoption of homeless animals.
Shelter Profile
We are a group of
volunteers working together to provide a clean, safe, comfortable
home for stray animals from the community of Brooklyn, Ohio.
This project is
intended to provide a community service for the City of Brooklyn's
residents. We want to have an animal shelter we can all be proud of.
To do this successfully we will need help and support from animal
lovers and advocates. Won't you help pass the word about our
mission?

I have been
gathering information on animal shelter design
since December of 2004. To a shelter volunteer,
being able to design a shelter is a dream come
true. Every person who has worked as an animal
caretaker in a shelter can always think of at
least one thing they would change that would
make their shelter better. As a volunteer at
Parma Animal Shelter, I was able to appreciate
the hard work it took to renovate the building
so that the proper rooms and air exchanges were
achieved.

Building a
brand new shelter gives us an opportunity to
do it right the first time. I invite you to
check out the articles on
Animal Shelter Design,
especially the
8 Essential Elements
of a Healthy Facility.
We remain dedicated to raise funds to
build a shelter that will be a healthy
facility. We have compiled a report of the
animals taken by the animal service and
judging by the calls we have gotten in the
past months we'll need to provide for way
more animals than were taken care of by the
animal service. For instance, from January
to November 2005 they picked up 13 kittens.
We have received calls for 19 kittens with 5
mama cats in 2 months and we are sure that
some people are just not reporting them.
Unfortunately, we do not have equipment or
training to catch animals so unless the
homeowner can catch the kittens and hold
them for us, we often cannot retrieve them.
There is also the problem of a lack of
foster homes, thus the need for a shelter
and our own animal control officer.

This is where we
want to be. Fortunately we have people who are willing to do what it
takes to make this happen. We will start as a basic animal shelter, home
away from home, adoption agency. We will do our best to give our guests
the best loving care possible. Anyone who loves animals and wants to be
part of this is welcome.
