"We make a living by what we do,

but we make a life by what we give."

- Winston Churchill

Volunteer Application

 IMMEDIATE NEEDS:

  •  Animal caregivers

  •  Foster homes for dogs and cats, puppies and kittens

Also needed:

  • Fundraising- committee whose purpose will be to raise funds needed to run the shelter, create the calendar of events, and organize, plan and execute fundraisers.

  • Grant writing – Responsible for funding solicitation by way of grants requested from corporations and individuals.

  • Health and Welfare Committee - Helps with animal care until adoption and follow up.

  • Animal caregiver: Includes feeding, cleaning cages, handling animals with TLC.

  • Cat Cuddler: Includes spending time with one or two cats, TLC and grooming.

  • Dog Walkers on-call since we don’t always have dogs and will be needed to clean kennels and feed the dogs.

  • Laundry (detergent and bleach provided)

  • Volunteer coordinator- to recruit for volunteer opportunities

  • Publicity and Humane Education committee whose purpose will be to increase public awareness of our shelter, its fundraising events, spay and neuter, animal care information, making presentations to the schools and community groups

  • Inventory and purchasing – responsible for collecting and recording in-kind donations, inventory of all supplies and purchase with BAS, Inc. funds of needed items.

  • Computers– to install software and operating systems on donated computers

  • E-mail communications – directing e-mail announcements, snail mail communications – directing mail (cost of stamps reimbursed)

  • Animal transport

  • Volunteer directory – taking pictures of new volunteers, making a directory and maintaining it, making nametags.

  • Publicity – helping to publicize events thru news media of all kinds, delivering flyers and pamphlets, mailing postcards.

  • Misc.- We need people to cut up blankets and sheets for our cages, hem bandanas, and store towels and bedding for us till our shelter is open as space is limited in our present quarters. We are looking for anyone who can put grommets in the corners of blankets to be used as hammocks for the cats.

All of these jobs are important to ensure the successful operation of an animal shelter. We are a organization of all volunteers. We receive no funding other than donations. If you decide to help, you will have a chance to help homeless animals, meet new people and develop friendships, and provide a great service to the City of Brooklyn and its people. These are exciting times for BAS, Inc. We are forming our procedures through experience and help from other shelters like Parma Animal Shelter and the Cleveland APL. We appreciate their advice and support very much.
